OET Preparation Course Content:-

Method of Training:-

Before taking the test, a discussion is held. The trainer will have discussion about the usual mistakes in the class and individual corrections are made. The students are provided guidance about how to speak, write, listen and read in OET to accomplish a nice band in the exam. The outcomes are provided in accordance to the OET grading system that is A, B, C, D etc. The students are provided correction and evaluation after the test. They are given attention on the modules they find cumbersome.

Differences between IELTS and OET:-

In IELTS, if a candidate does not get the required score, he or she has to give the entire examination again. In OET, the candidate has to repeat the failed module only. The fees will be levied for that specific module only. OET is a profession based English examination that deals with medical topics for nurses, physiotherapists etc. This exam is simpler than IELTS where the questions are based on general topics.


OET is widely recognized by healthcare councils and bodies in New Zealand, Australia and Singapore. There are several organizations that include colleges, universities, hospitals that utilize OET as an evidence of the ability of the candidate to communicate in an effective manner in a demanding healthcare environment.

Test Format for OET:-

OET facilitates a valid evaluation of the 4 language skills – Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. It lays a great stress on communication in medical and health professional settings. It comprises of 4 sub-tests:

  • Listening (50 minutes)
  • Reading (60 minutes)
  • Writing (45 minutes)
  • Speaking (20 minutes)

OET grade:-

  • A : This grade denotes high performance level
  • B: High level of performance that is able to use Fluent English and accuracy that is best for professional needs
  • C: Good performance levels not acceptable to health and medical councils
  • D: This grade denotes moderate performance level, needs improvement
  • E: This grade denotes low level of performance, needs improvement


The listening test comprises of two parts. In Part A, candidates listen to a dialogue between a patient and a professional. They have to take notes under the headings. In Part B, the candidates listen to a health professional indulging in a short conversation on a health related topic. They have to complete a wide range of open ended and fixed choice questions.


The reading test comprises of 2 parts. Part A is for 15 minutes. Part B, is there for 45 minutes. The candidates are asked to skim read three or four short texts. They have to finish a summary by filling the missing words. It has been designed to test the ability of the reader to scan the texts in a stipulated time frame. In Part B, the candidates are asked to go through two passages on a healthcare topic and answer 8 to 10 multiple choice questions for each text.


The writing task asks the candidates to write a letter and most of the times it is a letter of referral. A varied type of letter is needed for some professionals and it is the letter of transfer or a letter to give advice to a patient or a group.


The speaking test is in the form of individualized conversations with a speaker. The beginning is usually in the form of a warm-up interview regarding the professional background of the candidate. The candidates have two or three minutes to make preparations for every role play. Role plays last for five minutes.


Every score of the sub-test is made of OET graded A to E. A has the highest grade and E is the lowest. There is no overall grade. Results and Timings OET is available at least 12 times in a year and you can take the OET examination at the test venues all over the world.

One can get the results 16 business days after the test. The candidates get different grades for every sub-test. Many of the organizations need the candidates to have a B-grade in the 4 sub-tests and the results are valid for 2 years. Many of the organizations need the candidates get the grades for every sub-test in one sitting.
